Month 1:
During the first month of sisterlocks, your hair will still be in the settling phase. You will notice that your locks will appear thin and small, and you may have some unraveled ends. Your hair will also be very delicate during this time, so it's essential to handle it with care. It's recommended that you follow what your consultant advises you of according to your hair needs. I waited four weeks for my first retie and shampoo which came with my install package.
Month 2-3:
During the second and third months of sisterlocks, your hair will begin to settle and become more defined. Your locks will start to thicken up, and you may notice that some of the locks have fused together. This is completely normal and is a sign that your hair is progressing well. You may also experience some itching and scalp tenderness during this time because I know I did .It's essential to keep your scalp clean by washing your hair regularly and asking your Loctician if oils are safe to use on your new fabulous locs.
Month 4-5:
By the fourth and fifth months of sisterlocks, your hair will start to take on a more mature look. Your locks will thicken up even more, and you will start to see more length. Your hair may also begin to take on a wavy or curly pattern, depending on your natural hair texture. It's recommended that you don’t wet your hair often and LEAVE IT ALONE!
Month 6:
After six months of sisterlocks, your hair will have fully settled and taken on a mature look. Your locks will be thicker and longer, and you will have more styling options. At this point, it's essential to have a maintenance appointment with your sisterlock consultant to re-tighten any loose locks and assess the overall health of your hair.
In conclusion, sisterlocks are a beautiful and versatile natural hair care style that requires patience and dedication. During the first six months, your hair will go through various stages, from settling and defining to maturing and thickening up. It's essential to care for your hair during this time by washing it regularly, moisturizing it and oiling your scalp if your consultant agrees.
